GASIN carries out routine monitoring of the environments of local communities that host functional gas facilities. The core objective of the monitoring campaigns is to help curtail the negative impacts of gas operations on the helpless community members who dwell within the impact zones. This, we do, in collaboration with our community-based groups, the GMGs (Gas Monitoring Groups), in order to build their capacity to independently monitor their environments even without external aid from the government, CSOs or operating companies.
In the monitoring exercises, much emphases are laid on the Environmental Impact Assessments, Post-Impact Assessments and Environmental Management Plans, among others, which accompany the respective gas operations in the communities. The safety of the communities amidst the potential pollutants of the resource exploitation activities are very much taken into consideration under the monitoring activities, which are championed by Researchers and Project Officers.
